About US

Women for Oncology Türkiye provides a forum for bringing professionals together to share challenges and opportunities, collaborate on new projects, and advance their careers.

About US

The Women for Oncology Center serves as a central meeting point for women working in the field of oncology worldwide. Aiming to inform and inspire, the Center also acts as a resource hub for local initiatives.

Over the years, ESMO Women for Oncology has raised and discussed common concerns and challenges faced by women oncologists. These issues were then addressed at national and regional levels, enabling the development of solutions and programs tailored to each country’s unique context.

In 2013, Martine Piccart, President of ESMO (2012–2013), recognized that women oncologists were underrepresented in leadership positions. Her vision and insight led to the launch of the ESMO Women for Oncology initiative and the establishment of the ESMO Women for Oncology Committee in 2015. The Committee focuses on addressing the challenges women oncologists encounter as they pursue leadership roles throughout their careers.

Examples of existing local initiatives include those currently active in Bulgaria, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, and Spain.

We aim to raise awareness for Women for Oncology in our country as well.

Our Missions

Oncology is a developing field in Türkiye, and the number of young and active oncologists is increasing. However, they rarely participate actively in major international oncology conferences or international courses. Through this platform, our mission is to support oncology professionals, enhance the knowledge of both patients and physicians, improve the quality and awareness of cancer care, and take a more active role on the international stage.

To operate as a non-profit, autonomous organization under the umbrella of the Turkish Society of Medical Oncology (TTOD).

To represent Türkiye and take an active role under the umbrella of ESMO Women for Oncology.

To serve as a support network for women oncologists at all stages of their careers.

To assist and support women cancer patients in Türkiye through awareness and education, particularly by promoting cancer prevention.

To bring together groups, associations, cancer organizations, and influential women from all areas of public life (media, arts, literature, theatre, sports) under one structure.

To promote balanced gender representation in all oncology training programs and activities, both academic and non-academic.

To support the development of a network of women oncologists that fosters stronger collaboration in research related to oncology and gender.

To support work–life balance among women oncologists and their colleagues.

Women for Oncology Türkiye provides a forum that brings professionals together to share challenges and opportunities, collaborate on new projects, and advance their careers. By striving to gain visibility and take a more active role in international platforms, and by creating inspiring insights that address local initiatives, member needs, and challenges, we work to elevate the visibility and profile of women oncologists.
Because gender equality is the key to achieving excellence.
